PSA: this shampoo works best for COARSE hair. Meaning, your hair doesn’t feel soft and silky to the touch, but more on the wiry, coarse and thick side, this is for you. This is not gonna work for super fine, thin or oily hair, or even healthy Virgin hair, If that’s you, maybe Pureology Hydrate or Hydrate Sheer would work for you, especially if you’re the type to blow dry your hair- it’s better suited for that. But if you’re a low maintenance and cheap girly (within reason) like me, then keep reading.Context: I have fine-medium, high density, shoulder length hair that’s severely color damaged. I’ve colored treated my hair so much to the point where the damage is equal to that of being bleached. I had my hair red, lightened to copper, strawberry brown, accidentally dyed it black (thrice) and removed the color (thrice) On top of that, I recently got highlights. When I tell you nothing worked to make my hair to not look like a frizzy, messy nest, I’m telling you I tried everything. Let me compare to the best ones I tried: the higher end, I tried Pureology Hydrate line, which did bring back some curl definition but it was definitely not hydrated, and still remained frizzy and dry looking. One of the pluses was that it kept hair clean for a week (literally). It looked spectacular when blow dried, which I think would better suit its function. Even the new Garnier Fructis Hair Filler line brought similar results to Pureology, and up until a week ago those two were the best I had tried. Redken Color Gloss line gave me similar results as well, but with a little more shine. But none of those products would make my hair look like actual hair. I tried this Amika shampoo literally once, just once, along with the Hydro Deep Conditioner (because let’s face it, when you get to a certain level of damage you’re just wasting money on regular conditioners), my hair LOOKED LIKE REAL HAIR. Like, I AIR DRIED my hair, and the bounce, shine, structure, clumping of my curls came back naturally without any other styling product other than those two products alone. Not A frizzy or dry spot in sight. I was shocked! It was a day and night difference. Everyone thought I had literally styled my hair, and that was not the case. This is now my go-to shampoo and conditioner for daily use and gym days hair.Keep in mind, you will always want to switch this shampoo out with a clarifying one (OUAI detox- basic detox, or Loreal Metal Detox for Hardwater and brassiness) every other wash due to how hydrating it is- you don’t want to overly hydrate your hair ever, unless you want to cause moisturize fatigue (stretching out the cuticle of your hair) and damage it further. But those two products eliminated every need for leave in conditioner, air drying, anti frizz or shine sprays. That’s worth it in my book. I will continue to keep this in my rotation until my hair becomes truly healthy again
