Have you ever heard of bar shampoo? It is time to give it a chance because of its several benefits to the environment and the ease of use. Bar products are the solid version of our traditional bottle shampoos, and come in other forms such as conditioner bars, and shaving bars. Let’s dive into all things bar and why a switch is better for you and the planet. We considered lower plastic waste, water use, better longevity and economics of bar shampoos.
Bar shampoos minimize plastic use.
One of the biggest benefits of switching to bar shampoos is that they come with less plastic packaging than their bottled counterparts, which minimizes the use of plastic and reduces the environmental impact of our personal care products. Bar products also come in simple paper or cardboard packaging that is easy to recycle or compost.
Bar shampoos are usually made locally or in small batches, reducing the amount of fuel needed for transportation and the associated greenhouse gas emissions compared to large-scale production and shipping of bottle shampoos. Also, some bar shampoos can also be used as body soap, and shaving soap which reduces the need for additional products and packaging. So, as you can see, in terms of sustainability they present a pretty good case for a switch from the bottles.
Bar shampoos save water.
Bar shampoos save water because they are concentrated do not contain excess water in their formulation. Liquid shampoos are mostly water, containing up to 80% water, leading to excess plastic use and water waste. To put the impact in numbers, 0.18 gallons (700 ml) of water is needed to create a typical plastic bottle. And what's in the bottle? A typical shampoo and conditioner contain 80% of water.
Bar shampoos are economical and last longer than traditional ones.
Bar shampoos are not only eco-friendly but also economical. They tend to last longer than liquid shampoos because they are more concentrated, so you use less product to achieve the same results. With bar shampoos, you can reduce the frequency of purchase, save money, and decrease your environmental footprint by using fewer products overall. This makes switching to a bar shampoo a smart choice for anyone looking to minimize waste and save money in the long run. Generally speaking, bar shampoo can last up to two or three times longer compared with traditional ones.
Bar shampoos are made with less toxic ingredients.
Bar products are often made with natural ingredients and do not contain harsh chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. This makes them a healthier choice for both your hair and the environment. By using natural ingredients, bar shampoos are gentler on your hair, and body. They are also biodegradable, reducing the impact of harmful chemicals on aquatic life when they are washed down the drain.
Bar shampoos are travel friendly.
Going on a short trip, and don’t want to check-in luggage? How do you bypass the liquid permit with your carry on? Traveling, but need more space in your suitcase? Don’t want to pay extra luggage fees because of the water weight of your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and other personal care items? The answer is bar products, and these will be your best-friend. When you aren't worried about packing these liquid products, life becomes much better. Plus, you won't need to use the wasteful small shampoo containers that hotels give out!
Bar shampoos are planet friendly, economical, compact, and do not have harmful chemicals. Making the switch to natural bar shampoo is an easy way to prioritize your health and the health of the planet.
