I have to be real here. Sadly, so many times non-toxic products do not work, e.g. natural deodorants & natural toothpastes (at least they don’t work for me). So I had very little expectations for non-toxic dishwasher soaps. Still, I wanted to give it a try because as we learn more of the negative effects of all the chemicals we use in our day-to-day, it’s just worthwhile to give non-toxic products a chance.I am shocked as to how well this works. I don’t see any difference in the cleanliness of my dishes when compared to the Kirkland brand. I even prefer this brand because there is no strong smell while the dishwasher is working.Some people mentioned that this soap leaves spots behind, but I didn’t notice any of that. I’m just overall very happy with the product.I was also positively surprised that one single spoonful is enough, so a small bag gives you 50 uses. Since I live in a small place I love not having to store a big box with lots of pods.10/10 recommend.

I wanted to try a more “natural” dishwasher detergent for health reasons and because occasionally our conventional detergent would leave a scent behind- unfortunately sometimes we wouldn’t notice it until we cooked had already with a pot or dish and then noticed the food tasted soapy or perfume-y. After using Nellie’s for several dish cycles at this point I’m pleased to say that it cleans just as well as, if not better than, our previous name brand dishwasher detergent, with no unwanted fragrance or soap residue. I appreciate that it comes in a. recyclable tin as well. Tip if you’re having issues: follow the directions on the tin- run the kitchen sink tap water until it is hot before you start a load. Dishwashers with heating elements are designed to keep water hot, but not heat water. This will help with all detergents, not just this one. Also, if you have hard water, consider using citric acid in the cycle as well to help with water spots. We have hard water and have had to use citric acid even with the more “conventional” detergents.

We are impressed that this dishwashing detergent leaves our clear glasses clean, no white dull color at all.

I liked the idea of a safer dishwashing detergent and this did a decent job but not great. The only way I could really get it to clean the dishes well was by adding a cup of vinegar to the load. The scoop recommended seemed really small for a load but I went with the suggestion. When it didn’t go well, I doubled it and got the same result. Kinda clean.
